Kim Seok Jung

김석중 작가는 40여 년간 ‘일상-생성’이라는 단일 명제로, 평범한 일상도 역사로 생성하는 창조적 경험을 강조하는 작업 세계를 구축해왔습니다.

그의 대표적 조형언어는 ‘데포르마시옹’, ‘번짐과 덧입힘’, ‘중첩된 배경’ 이라는 세가지 주제로 나눌 수 있습니다.

작가는 그림으로 역사와 문화의 실존주의에 색을 입히는 방법을 탐구했던 젊은 시절부터, 일상의 요소들을 자기만의 주정적 감수성으로 재해석하는 반구상적 표현을 시도해왔습니다. 이러한 재해석 속에서 작가는 한지만의 정체성이라 할 만한 담채의 번짐과 덧입힘 효과를 캔버스로 옮겨 자신만의 서양화 기법을 만들어냈습니다. 작가의 다양한 조형적 변주의 대상은 일상에서 쉽게 접할 수 있는 가족, 자연, 동물, 가구와 같은 대상입니다. 이는 일상으로부터의 창조적 발견으로 ‘나와 일상’의 관계성을 발전시켜 나가고자 하는 예술 의지의 실현인 것입니다.

Kim Seok Jung has spent over 40 years working under a single theme, ‘Everyday Life – Creation,’ emphasizing the creative experience of transforming ordinary daily life into history.

His representative formative language can be categorized into three key themes: ‘Déformation,’ ‘Bleeding and Overlapping,’ and ‘Layered Backgrounds.’

From his early years, the artist has explored ways to imbue history and culture with color through painting. He has continuously experimented with semi-abstract expressions that reinterpret elements of daily life through his own emotional sensibility. Within this reinterpretation, he has developed a unique Western painting technique by transferring the distinctive identity of traditional Korean paper—its delicate bleeding and layering effects—onto canvas. His subjects of diverse formative variations are familiar elements from everyday life, such as family, nature, animals, and furniture. This embodies his artistic intention to establish a relationship between ‘oneself and daily life’ through creative discoveries within the ordinary.

삶은 자의적인 변화를 통해 다채로워집니다. 변화는 발견과 함께 이루어집니다. 김석중의 작품은 우리가 무심코 살아가는 일상 속에서 ‘새로운 발견’을 하게 함으로써 생활의 활력과 창조의 원동력을 가져다줄 것입니다.
