타헬 자오이의 회화는 감정과 논리, 질서와 혼돈 사이의 간극을 탐구하는 시각적 실험이다. 그는 인간 내면의 불안정함을 공학적 질서의 언어로 번역하며, 통제할 수 없는 감정의 흐름 속에서 새로운 형태의 균형을 구축한다. 이 과정에서 그의 화면은 하나의 공식이자 동시에 파열음이다. 계산된 구도 안에서 우연히 번지는 색채의 물결은 감정의 불규칙한 리듬을 기록하며, 질서와 자유의 경계 위에 머문다.

자오이는 파리 소르본대학교에서 컴퓨터공학과 금융응용수학을 전공했다. 그는 한때 모든 현상이 구조와 수식으로 설명될 수 있다고 믿었지만, 예측과 계산의 세계에서 감정의 변수와 마주하며 그 확신은 무너졌다. 이후 그는 파리와 로스앤젤레스에서 연기를 공부하며 감정의 즉흥성과 몸의 반응을 탐색했고, 결국 베를린에서 회화로 방향을 틀었다. 그의 작품은 이 전환의 궤적 위에 놓여 있다. 논리적 사고로 세상을 이해하던 과거의 습관은 여전히 그의 화면 속에 잠재되어 있으며, 감정의 충동은 그 위를 덮으며 끊임없이 새로운 질서를 창조한다.

그의 회화에는 질서와 무질서가 동시에 존재한다. 수학적 기호, 원시적 형태, 기하학적 선, 그래피티의 흔적은 서로 충돌하고 중첩되며 하나의 리듬을 형성한다. 캔버스는 우연히 생겨난 균열과 반복된 붓질의 흔적으로 가득 차 있다. 그 흔적은 결코 무작위가 아니다. 그는 무질서를 두려워하지 않으며, 그 안에서 패턴을 찾아내고 감정의 혼란을 구조로 치환한다. 이러한 행위는 감정의 해소가 아니라 정렬이며, 즉흥의 제스처를 통해 균형을 찾아가는 반복된 시도다.

타헬 자오이의 회화는 전통적 추상표현주의가 감정을 폭발시키는 방향으로 나아갔던 것과 달리, 감정의 질서를 세우는 방향으로 확장된다. 그의 붓질은 즉흥적이지만, 그 즉흥성조차 계산된 리듬 안에서 움직인다. 색면은 강렬하지만 상호 충돌하지 않고, 서로의 밀도를 조율하며 화면 전체의 호흡을 맞춘다. 그는 감정의 폭발이 아니라 감정의 구조를 실험한다.

결국 타헬 자오이의 작업은 질문으로 귀결된다. 우리는 감정을 통제할 수 있는가, 혹은 통제하려는 시도 자체가 예술의 시작은 아닐까. 그의 회화는 이러한 질문을 시각적 형태로 드러내며, 감정과 논리의 이중 구조 속에서 인간 존재의 본질을 탐색한다. 그의 화면은 불안정하지만 완성되어 있고, 혼란스럽지만 정제되어 있다. 그 안에서 감정은 혼돈이 아니라, 또 하나의 질서로 존재한다.

Taher Jaoui’s painting is a visual experiment that explores the gap between emotion and logic, order and chaos. He translates the instability of the human inner world into the language of engineered order, constructing new forms of balance within the uncontrollable flow of emotion. In this process, his canvas becomes both a formula and a rupture. Waves of color that spread unexpectedly within calculated compositions record the irregular rhythms of emotion, lingering on the boundary between order and freedom.

Jaoui studied Computer Engineering and Financial Applied Mathematics at the Sorbonne in Paris. For a time, he believed that all phenomena could be explained through structure and equations, but his certainty collapsed when he encountered the unpredictable variable of emotion within the world of calculation and prediction. He later studied acting in Paris and Los Angeles, exploring emotional spontaneity and the body’s responses, before eventually turning toward painting in Berlin. His work stands along the trajectory of this transition. The habits of logical thinking that once shaped his understanding of the world still remain latent within his canvas, while emotional impulses sweep across it, continuously generating new forms of order.

Within his paintings, order and disorder coexist. Mathematical symbols, primitive forms, geometric lines, and traces of graffiti collide and overlap, forming a singular rhythm. The canvas is filled with accidental cracks and repeated brushstrokes. Yet these traces are never purely random. Rather than fearing disorder, he seeks patterns within it, translating emotional turbulence into structure. This process is not a release of emotion but an act of alignment—a repeated attempt to find balance through gestures of spontaneity.

Unlike traditional Abstract Expressionism, which often moves toward the explosive release of emotion, Jaoui’s painting expands toward establishing an order of emotion. His brushwork appears spontaneous, yet even this spontaneity moves within a calculated rhythm. The fields of color are intense but do not clash; instead, they adjust their densities to create a unified breathing across the entire surface. He does not stage the explosion of emotion but experiments with its structure.

Ultimately, Taher Jaoui’s work returns to a question: Can we control emotion, or is the attempt to control it itself the beginning of art? His paintings visualize this question, exploring the essence of human existence within a dual structure of emotion and logic. His surfaces appear unstable yet complete, chaotic yet refined. Within them, emotion does not exist as chaos, but as another form of order.
